Diligence and Accountability Procure Favors

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’

Acts 13:22

In Psalm 119 verse 130 we read that God’s word gives light and understanding even to an inexperienced or ignorant person.

In order words, wisdom and obedience do not happen by chance but are a product of diligence and accountability. These two factors represent persistent effort and a required standard that guides our actions and decisions.

In Proverbs 22:29 we read about the elevating power of diligence: “ Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Simply put: If you are diligent, you would be outstanding.

By extension, If you live a life that is accountable to God you will also enjoy an unbroken relationship with God and your life will procure divine favor.

1 King 9:4-5 we have an understanding that wisdom and obedience are a product of diligence and accountability and that these also procure divine favor.

God admonishing Solomon said:

“Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and My judgments, then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, there shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel”.

As long as Solomon walked before God the promises of God concerning the house of David his father was sure but as soon as he drew away from being accountable to God the Davidic dynasty in Israel was not sure anymore.

It was in Solomon’s hands to ensure that the promises of God became bankable. Since the word of God is light that gives wisdom and understanding we are then responsible for the degree of the word we allow into our hearts.

Secondly we are also responsible for the degree of obedience we allow ourselves to walk in and this will require a life of diligence in the word of God and a willingness to apply these standards to our lives. This is the secret to divine favor and success.

We all have a role to play to ensure that the promises of God concerning our lives do not fail.

In order to ensure this we must understand that walking with God would require diligence in understanding his words and a life of accountability to walk by the standards of divine wisdom espoused in the Bible.
