The Theory of Disobedience

(Genesis 3:1-13)

What is a theory?

It is a set of principles on which the practice of an activity is based. Having defined a theory, we can then go on to explain the topic of our discussion, which is the theory of disobedience.

Biblical speaking disobedience is the failure or refusal to obey God’s known principle or authority. The first act of disobedience to God’s authority and will by man is found in Gen. 3:6-7.

Needless to repeat the story of how Satan came to Eve and Adam with deception to disobey God’s will in the garden of Eden and the consequent loss of their delegated authority.

Therefore a vital factor of the theory of disobedience is that it always comes with consequences. Adam’s disobedience to God’s will resulted in fatal consequences that affected not only man but also creation. (Romans 8:19-23).

Against this background what then is the theory of disobedience? We can deduce that disobedience always will take from man by deception the blessings that are freely given to him by God. ( Gen 3:4-5). The Bible is replete with many who lost divine promises to their act of disobedience by deception.

How do we ensure that we do not fall for Satan’s deception that leads to loss? One thing is to always be on guard and be watchful especially in our modern world where satanic deception is like a rampaging epidemic.

The Bible offers a valuable advice to this effect in Colossians 2:8 saying: “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.”

We thank God for the redemptive work of Christ that restored what Adam lost to the devil (our freedom and authority) but we should also know that the price of freedom is vigilance.( 1 Peter 5:8)

A sage once said that “The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance.” Therefore to keep enjoying the benefit of redemption we must always look out for the deception of the enemy plotted to steal what has been freely given to us by God.
