The Mystery of God’s Love

I have loved thee with an everlasting love . . . Jeremiah 31:3

Man, being man has a limited wisdom and God being God has an infinite wisdom. That is why He is God.

Therefore no human mind could easily comprehend God’s love for humanity especially those who love and obey him. God’s love for man is a mystery.

Reflecting on the mystery of His love Paul said, “We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory. . . . But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:7, 9).

This mystery is so deep that it can only take the eye of faith for mortal man to believe and appropriate this love. This love is deeper than what man thinks of himself for often times when he fails his heart would condemn him as incapable of divine righteousness.

On the matter of condemnation, and of the overflowing grace of His love we read: “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things”. (1 John 3:20).

The more we consider the mystery of this love the more one has to show an eternal gratitude to God. For example, while we were yet sinners and far off in sin, God already made a provision of atonement for us by sending his son

to die for us (Romans 5:8).

The Bible went further to say: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

Indeed great is the mystery of His love towards men and to those who believe and embrace this love. For those who believe and embrace His love, they accept the death of Jesus as part of a divine plan to save humanity.

Central to the heart of Christianity Is the death and resurrection of Jesus and that His death restored our broken relationship with God. This is known as the Atonement.

Before his atonement for our sins Christ had to come to live among men, share their challenges, understand their pain and then ultimately died for their sins therefore making him a pragmatic advocate for their sins before the Father.

The Bible confirms this saying :”For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).

When we rejoice and bless God for the mystery of His love towards us it is because we come to this one realization:

That we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9). It’s is His Grace Alone. Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or what we do, but because of the atoning work of Christ.

For this reason men ought to always celebrate the love of God and become more yielding to His love by turning away from everything that could frustrate this Grace.
