Stewardship: The Final Analysis of Life

(Luke 12:36-47).

Many people spend all their lives seeking the meaning of life but failing to realize that life is about stewardship and responsibility.

Who is a steward we may ask? The word “steward” is rooted in the Greek word “oikonomos,” which means “the manager of a household.”

Stewardship is therefore a job, it is the task and responsibility of supervising or taking care of something.

In the Biblical context, as seen in the charge God gave to Adam it connotes the effective use and management of all God giving benefits and to add value to these benefits.

What are God’s benefits to his creation? They include everything God brings into the believer’s life in a manner that honors God.

We see all these as the sum total of the essence of God’s calling for Adam – the first man. In Genesis 2:15, we read, “The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”

Therefore we see that God called Adam into stewardship of His work: to add value to His creation. This plan hasn’t changed and still rings true for us concerning how God expect us to conduct the affairs of our lives.

We are called to be a steward of all the things that the Lord has given us to enjoy and we are therefore called to manage our health, finances, relationship, time and money etc in such a way that we can add value to these things to the glory of God.

But many want to an increase without the burden of stewardship. However, in many things pertaining to resources, It is important to note that for a steward to increase he must have given a good account of all that God gave him to manage.

This remains the secret of why some keep increasing and others stagnate in life and this also applies to both believers and non believers. It is a universal law of God.

Therefore the key to increasing is to have given enough attention to the little we have been given. Jesus says: “And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?” (Luke 16:12 New)

Therefore stewardship in the Bible boils down to this question: Who’s the Lord of your life? Are you or is the Lord Jesus? This is the more important because all Stewards give account to a master. The Bible warns: “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God”. (Romans 14:12)

In the final analysis, wether we know it or not we are all Stewards and we will give account to God concerning the stewardship of our lives. The ultimate steward will surrender all aspects of his life to Jesus while allowing him to be the Lord and master. Jesus Christ an example of an ultimate steward says:

“I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.” (John 5:30 )

Beloved, will you today allow God’s will take precedence over your own will? This is the final analysis relating to good success and having a part with God in His Kingdom forever.
