Dark Times are for a Closer Walk With God

The end times are fast approaching and there is nothing anyone can do to stop the gathering dark clouds of terrorism, pandemic and violence. Everywhere you look, it seems as though Satan is on the lose.

Even though Bible scholars say that the end has not yet come but these are definitely the beginning of sorrows. Jesus himself testifies to the fact that the present travails are just an introduction to bigger troubles:

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” (Matthew 24:6).

However our focus in this text is not to delve into the signs of the end times per se but to exhort ourselves on how to walk as Christians as these ominous times deepen.

The Bible talks more about the readiness of the Christian for such hours and less about the observation of the times and seasons. “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 24:44)

Therefore these ominous times for the Christian must signal a deeper walk with God. More than piling up a knowledge of the evil times we should do much more to use the evidence of the times to secure a closer walk with God.

Even though Bible talks about man’s being born to trouble it went further to encourage the child of God to seek God and commit his cause to Him. Job 5: 7-8

God loves a growing relationship than a relationship that is only underscored by what we can receive from him. While some who claim to love God continue to gaze steadfastly at His hands ( gifts) those who really love Him would prefer to look at His face that they may be transformed into His likeness.

In Genesis Genesis 1 God said “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the earth”, but after the spiritual fall of Adam we realize that men are no longer in the likeness of God neither do they have dominion.

However in His redemption plan God sent Jesus so that man can reclaim his likeness to His Father (God) and also get his dominion back from the power of darkness, but only if they will walk with God and look to His face:

The Bible says “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord”. 2 Corinthians 3:18

However like everything of quality, a walk with God will cost us, it’s like climbing to a mountain top, it will require grit, perseverance and determination. Jesus gives this warning about this costly walk with God:

“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” ( Luke 9:23).

The benefits however outweighs the costs. A walk with God yields to us the peace and the power of the Kingdom in the midst of the present dark times.
