We Rise by Obedience

“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” — Luke 11:28

Why is obedience important to God?

Every time we disobey our evil inclination and choose to obey God we demonstrate our faith and trust in God and we also set ourselves up for divine promotion.

When we obey God we secure the key to our success and activate blessings upon our lives. When we obey God we become a living proof of the power of Christ to transform lives, and therefore strengthening our Christian witness.

Every Christian is commanded to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This is the core of the Christian calling.

However, no one who walks in disobedience can be an effective witness to the power of Christ to change lives.

in comparison, Adam’s disobedience left a generational curse leading to a redemptive plan for mankind through Jesus. On the other hand Abraham’s obedience to God also left a generational impact of divine blessing.

In Galatians 3:14 we see the result of Abraham’s obedience: “God redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.”

As we can see from the life of Adam and Abraham, we do know that obedience always have a ripple effect, either for good or for bad, it is never in isolation and that is why God takes the issue of obedience seriously.

Saul’s disobedience cost him and his generation a Kingdom while David’s obedience and love for God secured for him a lasting kingdom through Jesus Christ.

Obedience in the kingdom of God precedes promotion, as we have noted, we rise in this kingdom by the principle of obedience and we may also fall through disobedience as seen in the life of Adam and Eve, and the catastrophic fall of man from fellowship with God.

As David obeyed and loved God, He orchestrated his meteoric rise to power and prominence, and also promised to establish David’s lineage as the ruling line over God’s chosen people.( 2 Samuel 7: 11- 20).

When we obey God we don’t do Him a favor but that we may receive God’s blessings. God is a kind God and wants to bless us but the constant barrier seems to be our disobedience to the word of God.

Samuel knew this when he rebuked Saul’s presumption action saying “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.” (1 Sam. 15:22.)

Beloved, there is a terrible war raging out there for the souls of men and it’s not a new battle as we can see that it started right from the beginning in the garden of Eden and led by the deceiver, Satan.

The question of who wins or loses this battle will always rest on who obeys or disobeys God. If you want to rise with the help of God it is never too late to change from the course of disobedience to obedience today.

All you need to do is to commit yourself to the word of God and ask the Holy Spirit to give you the grace and power to obey.
