The Revelation of Truth: The Preparation of the Heart of Man

“All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. (Mathew 11:27).

In this world truth is always subject to constant debate in terms of what it truly means. Everyone has his own opinion or perspective about what truth is.

From politics, culture, religion and philosophy, a common definition of truth continues to be elusive therefore the world continues to be imperiled by its own diverse opinion of the truth.

However, with God, truth is not defined by personal opinion because truth belongs only to Him and it can only be received through revelation from God himself.

What is the truth? A Roman Officer in the Bible Pontious Pilate was so inquisitive about the matter of the truth that he posed a direct question to Jesus:

Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, ……For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—I to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” (John 18:37-38).

Had Pilate been humble and sincere enough about the quest for the truth he would have received a honest definition of the truth of life from the author of life himself (Jesus) who was handed over to him to be crucified in other to save the world from its damning sin.

God’s truth is simply the mind of God as revealed in his word concerning his will and desire for men. It’s his choice manual for living.

But like Pilate most people of our days continue to be cynical about the truth of the word of God.

Such people choose their own truth based on human pride and their position in the society and would rather want to protect their earthly gain and privileges than receive the true revelation of truth from God.

Of such, the Bible says “ whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them”. (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Unfortunately God will not bend the truth to suit human pride but will reveal it to only those who have prepared their heart to receive it in simplicity of faith and humility.

In Mathew 18:3, this divine standard was made clear by Jesus himself: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven”.

God’s revelation of truth to the human heart is based on his divine prerogative of humility and simplicity of faith and here is why many continue to miss God, not only in this generation but all through the ages.

To this end, Jesus” conversation with His Father reveled much: “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes (Matthew 11:25).

Why the special emphasis on childlike humility as a condition for receiving the revelation of divine truth? Because God is not man, and his principle is always in opposition to the ways of men. God opposes human pride and vanities-

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

In 1 Corinthians 3:19 we read : “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”.

How do we prepare our heart for this truth of God? It is to do away with our own pride of knowledge and sophistication and be yielded to God’s will, through repentance and obedience to His word- on daily basis.

Finally, in the preparation of the heart of man to receive God’s divine revelation, the Bible admonishes us as follows:

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls”. (James 1:21).
