Overcoming the Present Darkness

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12″

Worldliness is the most potent opposition that Christians face daily in their walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.

What does the Bible say about worldliness?

They are the total of all temporary pleasures of life which men devote all their lives to achieving without regard for eternal life in Jesus.

Satan, the great enemy of our souls, knows that if anyone always pursues the things of the world more than the things of God, he cannot be devoted to God. Such a worldly-minded person will, however, soon be overtaken by darkness.

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the whole light of day. – ( Proverbs 4:18)

The apostle Paul addressed the believers at Ephesus as “light in the Lord” and encouraged them to “walk as children of light” – (Ephesians 5:8)

Often our efforts to keep our light on are not without the opposition of darkness; darkness in this form ranges from confrontation with Satan, temptation to sin, fear and unbelief, and the present unstable situation of the world itself.

But as we resist these forces of darkness with the word of God and prayer, not only will His light shine brighter, but the Lord Jesus Christ will also reward our efforts to keep His light shining in us even more.

Here are a few ways we can overcome the forces of darkness:

Engaging in prayer for spiritual growth and exercising the word of God are the things that serve to lighten the path of the believer in this present world of darkness.

As long as we are in a world full of darkness, A Christian will always meet with resistance to prevent his light from shining, and this should not be seen as a strange thing but a norm. The Bible already warned us about this in 2 Tim 3:12

“In fact, everyone who wants to live a Godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

The primary purpose of Christianity is to fight against darkness in the world and to keep the light of God shining. There can’t be room for laziness or battle gear which is the word. Apostle Paul says of the Christian that “ God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.” (1 John 2:14).

As we engage in the word of God and prayer, we keep our light burning, we will successfully wade off the temptation of sin, fear, and doubts, and we need to grow in the exercise of our mandate to make disciples of unsaved souls.

This is how we glorify God on earth, who will, in turn, offer us a better deal in this present life and the life beyond, eternal life. Much more than our human efforts can ever achieve by rewarding our efforts. (Mark 10:30)
