Solving The Riddle Of This Present Darkness

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Why is the world in constant danger of looming wars and destruction? Why are most governments at a loss to solving economic and political turmoil?

Why are many lives overtaken by despair and depression? Why do men run to and fro in search of solutions to many posers to life questions without answers?

These are ancient questions in need of answers.

But as the world reels back and forth like a drunken man, and as men give new names to the darkness that threatens to overtake their hearts coupled with all sorts of hopeless prescriptions, they find themselves even more at a loss to solving the riddles of these engulfing darkness.

Why is this so? Simply because the government and people of this world have refused to look to Jesus, the light of the world but would rather continue to plunge deeper into darkness.

Jesus says: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (John 9:5). Now the question is this – is Jesus still in the world having resurrected and now sitting at the right hand of his Father? The answer is yes because he says “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Mathew 28:20).

Jesus through the Holy Spirit is very much in the world full of counsel, light, and guidance to as many as would simply look to Him for salvation and for deliverance.

Even as the world bids us look at its complex philosophy and wisdom which has failed to provide solution to its ills, Christ bids us to simply look to him and be delivered from darkness and confusion. His simple but yet powerful call says: “ “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other”. (Isaiah 45:22).

If men would begin to solve the riddle of darkness that threatens to engulf their soul and his world he must humble himself, come down from whatever horse he is presently riding, and look to Jesus, asking him to take charge and save the situation.

Sadly, rather than come to their savior for light and direction many men would rather look to themselves, to influencers and worldly philosophies, to entertainment, to scholars and religions for salvation. Even to their government: Anything but Jesus.

Jesus neither says look unto your pastors and be saved but he says, Look unto me and be saved. Here lies the truth to solving the riddle of this present darkness that threatens to engulf the world.

Sadly, men are too proud or too blind to look to Jesus in the barest measure of faith. Many find the simplicity of the Gospel as foolishness but would rather prefer more “complex solutions” forgetting that “ the way of the transgressor is hard” (Prov. 13:15). the more he seeks for solutions to his riddles the more his life becomes difficult outside of Jesus.

Man’s darkness can only be cured by the simple faith that looks to Jesus alone; the simple faith that confesses him as Lord of his soul and seeks for his answers in his simple yet powerful words.

The scripture says: “

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe…. but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles. but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God”.

Continuing to be a Jew (a religious person without Jesus) can’t help solve the riddle of darkness that engulfs your soul, being a Greek (seeking for signs, miracles and filled with all logical reasoning) can’t save you either and if you persist in being a gentile (an unbeliever) you can only wander away with the world in darkness.

Only the wisdom of God brings light into every darkness and the light is available to those who yield to his call, to them is made available the power and wisdom of Christ which is the only light capable of banishing the darkness from any life.
