The Hand of God

“Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shattered the enemy”. (Exodus 15:6)

Today we want to dive into the mystery of the Hand of God. Of course, God is a Spirit and not a man of flesh. Therefore when we use the term “hand of God” we are making reference to the power of God. The Hand of God symbolizes the majestic and almighty power of God.

We see the Hand of God in the affairs of the people of Israel in the Bible, helping them to obtain the promises He had made to their fathers, delivering them from mighty enemies who were stronger than them. No wonder the Psalmist writes: “ The LORD’s right hand is lifted high; the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!” (Psalm 118:16).

This mighty hand of God describes how God delivered the children of Israel repeatedly in the book of Exodus. We see how these narratives described the hand of God as an instrument of power, compassion, and tenderness.

The hand of God figuratively means blessing, power, and protection. It also means generosity, hospitality, and stability. Therefore when a man evokes the hand of God in prayer he is actually calling for one of the most powerful tools in the arsenal of heaven.

When Israel was terrified of Pharaoh the hand of the Lord intervened through mighty acts of deliverance, when they were hungry and thirsty in the wilderness, this same hand of the Lord was there to provide for their needs tenderly, and when they froze before their enemies in fear, the hand of the lord waxed valiantly for them in battle.

What can the hand of God do for us? The Hand of God can protect us from evil, it can ensure our safety and deliverance, it obtains for us divine promises, it removes the obstacles of the enemy in our path and it blesses us like the hand of a father on the head of his children.

The Scribe Ezra says: “Then we journeyed from the river Ahava on the twelfth of the first month to go to Jerusalem, and the hand of our God was over us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the ambushes by the way.”

How can we therefore attract the Hand of God upon our lives?

By acting on his word, moving on in faith, and dealing with fear knowing that God’s presence is urging us on to victory. Whenever men act upon the truth of God’s word without doubting the hand of God would always show up and never fail them.

By standing up to the fiery arrows of the enemy which attacks our prayer lives men invite the mighty hand of God to intervene in their affairs. We cannot harbor doubts, anger, resentment, and unforgiveness and expect the hand of God to move in our lives.

To this effect Apostle Paul says: “Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and disputing or quarreling or doubt in their mind”

Doubts, anger, and quarrels are the negative things that the enemy uses to stop the flow of the power of God in our lives. Many have waited at the edge of deliverance for so long without seeing a move of God because they refused to examine and purge their own lives from these dark forces.

The hand of God can only move mightily when men have purged themselves from their petty and selfish ways and are ready to submit themselves to God. Apostle Peter admonishes to “ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time”. (1 Peter 5:6).

When men follow Apostle Peter’s admonition they eventually invite God’s divine approval and favor upon their lives; they also invite His authority upon their lives. It means they are under the influence of God and they have stopped acting in their own selfish interests.

Beloved, are you ready to invite the hand of God upon your life? If your answer is yes then it means you must also be willing to surrender your life to Him as well. You must be willing to continually seek his guidance and help, acknowledging that you are incapable of acting without his power.

May the majestic hand of God’s power rest upon you for good today in Jesus’ name, amen.
