Farther with God

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance,

but Moses alone is to approach the Lord; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.”

Exodus 24: 1-2 NIV

God is not a selective person neither does he have favorites but God’s dealing with certain individuals went deeper than usual. These people were used for a special purpose. Such a person obviously was Moses.

In Exodus 24: 1-2 God’s special invitation to Moses to come father up the mountain away from the other invitees paints a picture of what it would require for believers of this age to have a special relationship with God.

The good news is that the special relationship for a special purpose is no longer for an exclusive group of people but for all who will be willing to come to Jesus and even desire to go farther with Him.

When the veil of the temple was torn into two to reveal the once exclusive holy of holies this invitation became a open to all (Matthew 7:51).

In Moses’ time this veil was used to cover the ark of the testimony while in transit and it also served to separate the holy place from the holy of holies in the temple during Jesus’s time.

Whereas the open invitation is free but the special relationship for a special purpose will cost us. It will mean to separate ourselves from the way of the world in order to go farther with God.

This tells us that those who will be used for a special purpose with God must be ready to go the extra mile required to receive a special blessing.

What is the basic requirement to go farther with God? It is simply to seek the face of God first in all things. Matthew 6:55 says “ But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”.

What are all “ these things”? The things we daily seek but which keeps drawing us away from God and further into the world. However in God’s order of priorities He seeks a relationship with us first so that He can bless us and not the other way round.

Why is this necessary? A special relationship for a special purpose becomes necessary because God has designed a something deeper than a momentary pleasure for his Children.

He is calling them to a higher purpose and they can only be molded into the image of this purpose if they following him through the process.

What is the special calling that defines their special purpose?

The Bible says that ..” this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”

That special purpose is eternal life with Jesus Christ at the close of this age.
