The Secret of the Power of God

“For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power”.

1 Cor 4:20

There is a common saying that “ talk is cheap”. This means that we do not believe someone will do what that say. We cannot effectively witness about the power of God if that same power doesn’t manifest fully in our lives.

However as children of the Kingdom, God’s desire for us is to walk in power and not just to talk about the adventures of Jesus to unbelievers.

The indefatigable Apostle Paul an example to all who will aspire to walk in the raw power of God says “ In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. (Romans 15: 19).

Against this backdrop, the sad reality of the current condition among many Christians is far from from the lives of past heroes of faith like the Apostle Paul who demonstrated the power of God in their lives and to others.

Sad truth is that many modern day believers have not known nor are willing to pay the price to be in touch with the secret of the power of God.

Jesus promised every believer a perpetual experience of his power saying “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water,” ( John7:38) and from this same heart comes unbelief which is the first principle that quenches the power of God in a believer.

How many times have we given up on the power of God to heal and to deliver just because we deem our circumstances greater than his power to save? And in the rare circumstances when we believe did we allow sin and worldliness to quench the momentum of God’s power in our lives?

There is no short cut to the power of God but only through faith in the ability of the son of God to do the impossible and also through a single minded pursuit of God. The Bible says to him who believes all things are possible. (Mark 9:23) Only if we believe!

However, faith without a corresponding commitment to grant the Holy Spirit access to our lives can not produce much evidence of power. (Luke 4:18)

Before the disciples had an encounter with the Holy Spirit of God they were unable to do much even in the face of what Jesus did in their presence. (Mathew 17:16-18)

Beloved we must all yearn after the Holy Spirit of God (especially in these last days where all sorts of bondages abound) to have an expression in our lives, because wherever the Spirit of God works there is always liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:13), and how we need this deliverance!

How do we begin to prepare ourselves from the infilling of the power of God? We must begin to make straight path for our walk of faith, shunning power quenchers like sin, unbelief and worldliness.

For the power of God to fall on any life and on any situation we must first heed the call for revival by the Prophet Isaiah and John the Baptist. This cry will always precede any inflow and consequent outflow of the power of God:

“I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.'” John 1:23
