The Revelation of Faith

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,Nor have entered into the heart of Man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit”. ( 1 Corinthians 2:9-10).

The Bible, which is the word of God is the ultimate source of faith. (Romans 10:17).

We learn that the Bible alone embodies the truth and revelation of the One true God and when the Bible says “it is written”, it means the exclusively transcribed word of God, and it comes with a command to believe the written word of God because his word is incorruptible.

In (2 Chronicles 20:20,) we read a rallying cry from King Jehoshaphat to this effect saying:  “Believe in the Lord your God; so shall ye be established”.

The revelations of faith in the word of God as written in the Bible are underscored by the following facts: the word of God is sufficient in itself (Psalm 119:160); it is a documented divine revelation (2 Timothy 3:15-16) and its truth is infallible therefore Jesus said “the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35), meaning that God’s Word is indestructible, no matter how mortal men may regard it.

Because the word is exclusively from God and carries divine power men have been warned not to add to it or take away from it.    (Revelation 22:18).

There are degrees of faith: The Bible is clear that Christians have different degrees of faith. Abraham was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God (Rom. 4:20). So it is therefore possible for our faith to be strengthened.

Jesus asked the disciples, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25), making it clear that it is possible to have faith and not use it and then allow the spirit of unbelief to scourge our seed of faith thereby weakening such faith through doubt.

Recall that Peter’s faith was shaken because of doubt: “You of little faith… why did you doubt?” (Mat. 14:31). Jesus did not say that Peter had no faith, but that his faith was small.

Faith is not a test of logic but of character. Because faith is a spiritual force it is natural for our flesh to rebel against faith. Jesus said: “Have faith in God” meaning we are not to have faith in our own feelings, which are unstable. And this to the believer should be a daily growth in the word of God and not waiting until a crisis happens- this is the common lot of many.

Elder R G. Scott in his sermons “The Transforming Power of Faith and Character” says:

Faith and character are intimately related. Faith in the power of obedience to the commandments of God will forge strength of character available to you in times of urgent need. Such character is not developed in moments of great challenge or temptation. That is when it is intended to be used”.

To develop a fine and courageous character growing our Faith in the word of God is therefore our daily responsibility and we shouldn’t wait for a day of trouble when men are weak.

Proverbs 24vs 10 says: “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small”.

Once we see that Christians have different degrees of faith, we will see that our faith can grow, and we will have a reason to daily cultivate ours to give us strength to conquer life’s challenges in victory.
